Sandy Fick, RN''In Him we live and breathe and have our being.''  Acts 17:28

Sandy Fick, RN, our Weight Management nurse, has received considerable training in Intuitive Eating Motivational Interviewing, a technique which honors and re-establishes the inborn boundaries each person has in order to help children become good eaters.  She is listed on the National Referral List of Intuitive Eating Counselors at www.intuitiveeating.com.  Her focus is to help families create a healthy relationship between food, mind, and body.

Sandy joined Northwest Pediatric Center as a nurse in September 2001.  In 2007, she started our Weight Management Program.  Sandy has come to understand that weight issues with children are many layered.  They are not solved by restricting intake but rather, by providing for the child's needs, teaching them to eat in response to hunger and to stop when full.  She enjoys helping parents understand the best ways to provide for the children they love in order that each child can grow into the body they were intended to have.

Sandy sees her life as an expression of her relationship with Jesus Christ.  In absolute dependence on Christ, Sandy finds great joy in growing in the abundant life Jesus freely offers and extending that life and joy to those around her.

Before coming to Northwest Pediatrics, Sandy worked in the endocrinology department at Virginia Mason Hospital, where she was extensively trained in diabetes care and spent two summers working at a summer camp for diabetic children.  The nutritional and emotional challenges of that experience, and growing up in a family with multiple weight-related health issues, made it very inviting to participate in a statewide Children's Health Improvement Collaborative focusing on children with weight issues.  Participation in that collaborative led to the development of our Weight Management Program.

Sandy and her husband David, who is a hospitalist at Providence Centralia Hospital, have lived in Lewis County for 25 years and have three children.  Sandy enjoys the outdoors, hiking, and live theatre.  She finds her wildly informal perennial garden to be great therapy.  She is active in her church and takes great delight in teaching Old and New Testament to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders as well as teaching adult Sunday School.
