Foster care

Dr. Debbie Rodriguez joined Northwest Pediatric Center in the spring of 2024 and is leading our efforts to serve patients, families and our community with foster-care and trauma-care services and resources.

Northwest Pediatrics was recently named a Foster Care Center of Excellence (FCCOE), becoming one of just five locations statewide that have met or exceeded more than 50 caregiving criteria. FCCOEs provide expert, trauma-informed care for child welfare-involved families, and connect caregivers and others with excellent foster-care and adoption resources.

Foster Care and Adoption Resources

Children who have experienced foster care, adoption, separation, loss, neglect, abuse, or other adversity may respond to everyday situations differently from other children. Behaviors that appear oppositional, controlling, anxious, withdrawn or overly emotional can sometimes reflect a child’s efforts to feel safe. Trauma-informed care (TIC) and trauma-informed parenting emphasize safety, connection, regulation, predictable relationships, and understanding the need or story behind the behavior, while still providing appropriate boundaries and expectations.
