Primary Function

A Pediatrician is a physician who specializes in the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. A pediatrician holds a Doctorate in Medicine from an accredited school of allopathic or osteopathic medicine and has successfully completed a post-doctoral residency program in pediatrics from an accredited institution. Pediatricians promote wellness and educate about the prevention of illness and health promotion. Pediatricians perform physical examinations and developmental assessments, manage pediatric illness, and help families meet their health needs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Including, but not limited to the following
  1. The Pediatrician is expected to assess the health status of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults and develop appropriate plans for health supervision and illness management. To accomplish this, Pediatricians must:
    • Obtain a comprehensive developmental, health and medical history.
    • Perform physical examinations based on age and history.
    • Perform or recommend age-appropriate and condition-specific screening, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
    • Assess and diagnose childhood illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions, or any other condition that is within the expertise and knowledge of the pediatrician.
    • Formulate a holistic, culturally-sensitive, family-centered plan of care recognizing the child and family are active participants.
    • Consult with other health care providers as necessary
    • Provide pediatric specialist consultation to other health care providers.
  2. The Pediatrician is expected to provide comprehensive health assessment by teaching, counseling, and advising children and their families about growth and development, health status, illnesses, management plans, and health promotion, disease and injury preventing activities and provide anticipatory guidance. To accomplish this, Pediatricians must:
    • Provide age-appropriate education based on growth and developmental
      factors, cultural and belief variables and family systems.
    • Provide families with guidance to learn skills that foster healthy behaviors.
    • Function as a resource person in health-related issues.
    • Provide appropriate child and family education regarding purpose, regimens, side effects, possible interactions of medications and/or treatments, cost, and alternative treatments or procedures.
    • Provide care that reflects evidence-based practice, ethical considerations, cost and clinical effectiveness and family acceptance and/or satisfaction.
    • Coordinate care, make appropriate referrals, and facilitate systems intervention to assure quality care.
    • Utilize any other appropriate intervention(s) within the scope of practice parameters, expertise and knowledge of the Pediatrician.
    • Identify and coordinate access to appropriate community resources.
    • Provide for appropriate follow-up care.
  3. The Pediatrician is expected to promote growth and development of infants, children, adolescents and you adults. To accomplish this, Pediatricians must:
    • Evaluate the child’s developmental status.
    • Identify normal versus abnormal growth and developmental patterns.
    • Analyze factors that impact growth and development.
    • Assist the family and individual to promote optimal growth and development.
    • Provide anticipatory guidance and identify risk factors at each stage of development.
  4. The Pediatrician is expected to use prescriptive authority, in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations to treat illness, improve health status, and provide preventive care. To accomplish this, Pediatricians must:
    • Prescribe medications based on a child’s clinical history, current assessment data and health care needs.
    • Prescribe medications based on current research and a thorough knowledge base in pharmacotherapeutics.
    • Provide patient education regarding intended effects potential side effects and specific instructions for medication administration.
    • Monitor therapeutic and potential adverse effects of medications.
  5. The Pediatrician will participate in periodic chart reviews with other providers in the practice as part of ongoing quality assurance.
  6. The Pediatrician will take call on weekdays, weekends and holidays in rotation with the other providers in the practice and will examine and treat patients during regular office hours and, when on call, during evenings, weekends, or holidays as deemed necessary by the Pediatrician and as per the practice protocols.
  7. The Pediatrician will examine, diagnosis, and treat patients in bot the inpatient and outpatient setting per Northwest Pediatric Center guidelines.
  8. The Pediatrician will provide oversight and back-up call coverage as needed for PNP’s employed by Northwest Pediatric Center
  9. The Pediatrician will read and follow the policies and procedures implemented by Northwest Pediatric Center, Inc. PS
  10. Pediatrician will utilize current medical guidelines for management of medical problems.
  11. The Pediatrician will participate in/attend all provider meetings.
  12. The Pediatrician will be willing to participate in intra office committees (EX: QI).
  13. The Pediatrician will promote good will through community involvement when possible/ appropriate.

Qualifications

  2. Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies and general public
  3. Ability to make decisions and solve problems

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  1. Completion of an accredited doctoral level training program leading to a Doctorate in Medicine
  2. Completion of an accredited post-doctoral residency program in pediatrics.
  3. Active MD license in WA
  4. Certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  5. Shareholder of Northwest Pediatric Center, Inc. PS
  6. Federal DEA registration
  7. Maintain competency by participating in relevant continuing education programs and certification maintenance programs.
  8. Strong ethical and moral character
